“The Sterilization Bill” in The Gateway, March 15, 1928

March 15, 1928. “The Sterilization Bill” was published in the Gateway Newspaper addressing criticisms of the sterilization legislation that had recently been enacted in Alberta. Three facts are outlined for readers to consider about the controversial law: first, sterilization would be done surgically with one incision – it would not be a mutilating process; second, consent of the individual and/or family would be required; and third, each individual must be approved for sterilization by the Eugenics Board, made up of four medical and psychological experts in the province.
